Native location search — "near me," zip code, and radius filtering
Problem:
Directify already stores latitude/longitude and full addresses on listings, and renders them on maps — but visitors can't actually search by location. There's no zip code search, no radius filter ("within 10 miles"), no distance sort, and no browser-geolocation "near me" button.
This matters because visitor expectations are set elsewhere: Yelp and Google Maps have made location-first search the default mental model for finding any local business. Yelp's core search is literally two boxes—"what" and "near where"—with distance sorting and a "Current Location" option built in. When visitors land on a Directify-powered local directory, they instinctively reach for that same interaction and find it missing. The available workarounds—a filterable custom field with a hand-maintained city list, city names in descriptions and tags, or the map view—don't fully replace it.
My use case:
I'm building a curated community business directory of ~600 brick-and-mortar businesses across Greater Los Angeles, launching soon on Directify. Every listing is already geocoded with exact coordinates. Location search isn't a nice-to-have for this product—it IS the core interaction.
A visitor's first action will be "show me what's near me" or "what's in 91205," the exact search they'd run on Yelp. I've built a filterable Area field as a stopgap for launch, but it's coarse (city-level buckets I maintain manually), and it breaks down for businesses on borders or visitors who think in zip codes. Frankly, this is the one gap that gives me pause about scaling long-term on the platform.
Requested capability (in priority order):
Location input in the search bar — accept a city or zip code, geocode it, and return listings sorted by distance
Radius filter — e.g. 5 / 10 / 25 miles from the searched location
"Near me" — browser geolocation as the search origin, with permission prompt
Distance display on listing cards when a location search is active
Why it fits Directify:
The hard part (geocoded listings, map rendering) already exists in the platform. It would also be a meaningful differentiator — most no-code directory builders share this same gap, and "local directory" is one of the most common use cases you promote. Niche directories compete with Yelp on curation and trust.
Thank you for considering it — happy to beta test with a real 600-listing geocoded dataset ahead of my launch.
